Activity - Batik with Flour and Water

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• 1/2 -cup flour
• 1/2 -cup water
• Plastic squeeze bottle with nozzle
• White or light-colored fabric
• Non-toxic fabric paints
• Brush

LET'S GET STARTED:

Mix together 1/2 -cup flour with 1/2 -cup water. Stir until smooth. Pour into a plastic squeeze bottle with a nozzle, like an empty honey bear container. Squeeze out mixture onto white or light-colored fabric, making designs, patterns or shapes. Leave undisturbed overnight. When dry, brush non-toxic fabric paint over the designs, making sure you paint between all the dough lines. Use a variety of contrasting colors, if you wish.

If painting a T-shirt, be sure it is pre-washed. Place a sheet of cardboard between layers so that the flour mixture and paint do not soak through.

When paint is dry, pick off the hardened flour mixture to reveal your hidden masterpiece.

NOTE: If some of the flour mixture is difficult to remove, run the fabric under warm water and continue to pick it off.
