Episode 126 - Time Out for Time
Segment #1 - Telling Time
Activity - Water Bottle "Hour Glass"

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• Two 20–ounce plastic water or soda bottles with caps and with labels removed
• Strong glue
• Electrical tape
• Drill and 11/16 drill bit
• 1-1/2 cups clean sand or colored craft sand
• Funnel

LET'S GET STARTED:

Use strong glue to attach the top of one cap to the top of another. Tape them together with electrical tape for reinforcement.

Wearing protective goggles, an adult should drill a hole through the center of both caps.
Screw the drilled/glued cap piece onto one of the plastic bottles. Pour sand through the funnel into the other bottle.

Tightly screw the empty bottle to the sand-filled bottle. Invert and watch the sand flow into the empty bottle.

To create the exact time amount for your sand timer, use your watch to measure how long it takes for the 1-1/2 cups of sand to flow from one bottle into the other. If you desire a three- minute timer and the sand runs out before three minutes, add more sand. Test until correct.
