Episode 119 - Our Home
Segment #1 - Create a Carpet
Activity - Aquarium Carpet
We are explaining how to make an aquarium design but use your imagination to create any design you want! Match the theme of your bedroom décor or jazz up a bathroom floor.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Large piece of remnant carpet (blue is nice if making an aquarium)
- Smaller pieces of carpet samples or remnants in a variety of colors
- Sturdy scissors
- Duct tape
LET'S GET STARTED:
- Sketch out design on backside of blue carpet remnant. You may want to include fish, seaweed, bubbles, seashells and even a crab. The simpler the design, the easier time you will have putting it together. Tip: If you are making a fish, draw an oval shape for the body and a triangle shape for the tail. The tip of the triangle matches up to the end of the oval to create the simple shape.
- Carefully cut out these shapes from the under side of the carpet.
- Use these cut out shapes as your pattern. For example, if you cut an oval shape for the fish body, move to a different color carpet sample or remnant, trace the oval onto the back of the sample and cut it out.
- Insert the new color oval into the oval hole you made in the large blue remnant. On the backside of the carpet, use duct tape to join the seams where the carpet pieces meet. Repeat with all of your new pieces.
- Turn the carpet over to reveal your creation. It may be so pretty you won't want to walk on it! Hang it on the wall like a piece of art!
