Episode 116 - Try, Try Again
Segment #1 - Newspaper Shoes
Activity - Newspaper Shoes
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Several 22" x 27" sheets of newspaper
- Ruler
- Tape
- Scissors
- Ribbon
- Glue
LET'S GET STARTED:
- Spread out newspaper sheet. Beginning at one corner, make a 3/4-inch fold. Continue folding the entire sheet until you have one long strip. Tape the center down and fold both ends inward about 1 inch; tape them closed. Make several of these strips. (We used ten for an adult-size shoe.)
- Measure the length of your child's foot in inches and divide that number in half. Mark the amount on one of the strips and make your first fold at that point. Continue folding. Tape a second strip to the end of the first strip. Fold and tape until the sandal is the desired size.
- Cut two 12-inch lengths from one of the folded strips. Place one of the strips over the top of the sandal and insert ends into the sandal base to make strap. Slip child's foot under the strap to determine how tight you want it to be. Then tape strap ends together on the underside trim. Slide taped end into the side of the sandal so that it's not exposed. Make second sandal.
- Decorate sandals with glued-on ribbon. You can also substitute wallpaper for newspaper when making the strap or glue ribbon around the edges and on the strap.
